Born: Pamplona, Spain March 10, 1844 Died: Biarritz, 20 September 1908, aged sixty-four Spanish violinist, known as Pablo de Sarasate. Sarasate studied violin at the Paris Conservatoire in 1856. Sarasate had very successful career as a concert violinist and toured all over Europe and North and South America. He possessed an exceptionally sweet tone, a style of much purity and char, but the smallness of his hand made long stretches difficult for him to play music written by Paganini, which demands wide stretch of left hand.Eduardo Lalo wrote his first Concerto and his Symphonie Espagnole and Max Bruch wrote his second concerto for Saraste. Sarasate often played Spanish music of his own composition, also transcriptions of Spanish folk-music. In Pamplona, there is a Sarasate museum containing gifts and mementos that he presented to his native city.Gogh, Vincent van (b. March 30, 1853, Zundert, Neth.--d.
