MOL: Tell
us about your musical background...
Like most of children in Czech Republic, I begin studying music by playing a
Recorder. By the form of game my father taught me at home, I learned to read musical notes
before I begin to read. I was born in artistical family, my father was a sculptor and my
both parents were very enthusiastic about music, and for many years they conducted an
amateur music ensemble. Later, I started to play the transverse Flute. At fifteen, I
entered Prague Conservatory and studied with Professor Frantiek Malotín.
MOL: Tell us about your
Teachers... The most important pedagogue for me was Professor
F.Malotín at Prague Conservatory. In my opinion, his greatest strength in teaching was
for him to teach his student on how to concentrate and focus when they play music while
relax their body at the same time. His technique of playing the Flute is perfect, in my
opinion. Another pedagogue who influenced me was Professor Christian Lardé from Parisiene
Conservatory. He helped me to find and to create my own conception of general
interpretation of French impressionism. I must say that I always felt that I needed to
study with those padegogues and artists other than playing Flute. In my opinion, it is
very important to learn from other instrumentalists. In addition, I was also much
influenced by the meeting of James Galway while attending his master classes in
Switzerland.
MOL: Tell us about your
teaching
I teach at Prague Conservatory and Dvorák Music College. I
like teaching very much. I select my students very carefully because I believe that the
harmony between the professor and the pupil is very important. I try to support my
students not only in music but also be a good advisor in their lives. My teaching method
is based on singing technique and the understanding of human body and balance of
inner and outer strengths and relaxation. I think that the most negative phenomenon is
inner discomfort of interprets and the effort to demonstrate maximum technical perfection
to the detriment of music.
MOL: Your practicing strategy?
I am not familiar with any special method of everyday
practicing. To be in a good psychical condition is most important for me... and only after
that, one knows when to start with tone or another exercises. Everybody should have their
own practicing methods that meets their needs. Sometimes, it all depends on that day. If I
have a concert, my practicing strategy may change.
MOL: Tell us about your repetoire ...
My repertoire includes compositions from baroque to
contemporary. However, the choice of compositions for concert depends on case by case...
that is, requrest from an organizing agency to type of audience I must perform for. My
repertory includes aproximately 15 solo concerts that are available to be performed at
anytime. In addition, I enjoy playing music from the begining of 20th century.
There are many interesting compositions for Flute from this period and I try to include
them to my recitals when ever I can.
MOL: How many concerts do you have a year?
The number of concerts in one year varies. However, I can say
that I have an average of 50 engagements a year.
MOL: Any hobby?
I am the daughter of the sculptor and therefore, during my
childhood a model clay or some paper for drawing were my main toys, however, I left these
activities. I enjoy visiting museums and galleries, mainly modern arts. I love to read
everything I can get my hands on... however, there is one condition to this. The writings
must be short... else I wait to be told the end of story by someone else. Now a day,
most of my time goes to loving animals. At present, we have 14-years old dog
Barnabá and tom-cat Mike.
MOL: Final word?
No doubt that for all artists,
the family background is very important. My parents supported me always and definitely
without their support, my life would have been much more difficult. However, I must say
that I am very fortunate because I have same support from my husband, who happens to a
conductor.
MOL: On behalf of MusicalOnline, we would like to
thank you for your time and we wish all the success.
